Rare Connections
Virtual Patient & Caregiver Support Groups
Rare Connections provides opportunities for adult patients and caregivers to come together and share their experiences with others facing similar challenges. In this atmosphere, attendees learn from each other and feel supported by people who understand, thus leaving each meeting with feelings of hope.
These hour-long sessions are moderated by a trained member of RNE who follows a guideline prepared specifically for this program.
There are two meetings held per month, one focused on bringing together caregivers and another focused on adult patients.
At each event, a moderator allows those in the waiting room who have requested to join into the meeting.
The host welcomes attendees and begins by explaining the group rules and format for the next hour.
Attendees are free to start sharing their own needs or topics will be suggested by the host to get the conversation flowing.
On occasion, there might be a guest speaker to share an appropriate topic in consideration for the group.
Attendees are encouraged to use their first names but there is an understanding that some might feel the need to attend anonymously and that’s ok.
